New Health Plan Choices for 2008

Your Health. Your Choices.

Through tools, programs, and incentives, Your Plan for Health offers many choices to help you and your family reach your highest potential for health. With the core programs of Your Plan for Health now in place, Ohio State is introducing new health plans for 2008.

These options are designed to provide more choices to help you and the university better manage costs and promote overall well-being through quality health care benefits while giving you a more active role in managing your health care. It’s your health. It’s your choice. You have the power to choose what’s right for you and your family!

New Features

  • No matter which health plan option that you choose, you’ll be able to lower your monthly premium by $10 if you take the PHA by December 14 and authorize the Office of Human Resources to be notified of that fact.
  • All options provide 100% coverage for preventive care under the plan’s Preventive Care Guidelines .

A Snapshot of 2008 Health Care Plan Options

Prime Care Advantage—“Core” Plan

With the majority of faculty and staff enrolled in the University Prime Care (UPC) plan for 2007, this option will continue to be available for 2008, but with a new name—Prime Care Advantage. This plan offers copayments for most provisions and no annual deductible. Services obtained outside the network are not covered under this plan except for emergency services.

Prime Advantage Plus—“Buy-Up” Plan

An expanded version of the UPC plan, this option offers the same coverage, when using a network provider, as UPC but also provides for out-of-network coverage in exchange for a higher premium.

Prime Advantage Value—“Buy-Down” Plan

This option has the lowest premium among the four options, but requires an annual deductible and coinsurance for most services, while still maintaining some copays for things like physician office visits and ER. This plan does not provide out-of-network coverage except for emergency services.

Independent Choice Plan—“Non-Core” Plan

All of the services under this plan option can be obtained out of network. It has the highest premiums of all options available for 2008 because network discounts cannot be negotiated in this plan option. Benefits under this plan are paid on the basis of coinsurance after an annual deductible has been met.
